Des Plaines school video a national finalist

Algonquin Middle School in Des Plaines could be in line to receive more than $57,000 worth of technology-related upgrades if it wins an online video contest.

Students' and teachers' "Tech Tech Baby!" music video parody of Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" was selected as a finalist in the Compass Learning Classroom Refresh Contest, which awards Chromebooks, SMART Boards, and other technology to the school whose video gets the most votes.

Algonquin's entry was selected as one of five finalists in the grade 6-8 category, from more than 120 videos across the country. Videos were to be an original song or parody that demonstrates or envisions the use of technology in the classroom, according to Compass Learning's website.

Voting continues online at classroomrefreshcontest.com until Dec. 1. Those votes and scoring by a panel of judges will determine the winner.
