Addison police officer honored for work with youth

Addison Police officer Omar Brucal has been selected by the DuPage Juvenile Officers Association as the Juvenile Officer of the Year.

The award is presented to someone recognized throughout DuPage County as an exceptional law enforcement officer who sets a valuable example to the youths of the community.

Brucal has been teaching the DARE/GREAT programs, along with other safety curricula, to students in Addison Elementary District 4 and Community High School District 88 since 2006.

Brucal also organizes and runs the Peer Jury and Explorer programs for the Addison Police Department and is president of the Illinois DARE Officer Association.

Brucal's co-workers, students and the residents of Addison say they enjoy being around him because of his personality and ability to put a smile on one's face any day of the week.

He represents the police department with his passion, work ethic and positive attitude.
