Glenbard Parent Series focuses on teen eating disorders

The Glenbard Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Families will present "Really Understanding Teen Eating Disorders," with psychiatrists discussing risk factors, consequences and strategies for prevention.

The program will be presented from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Carol Stream Elementary District 93 administration building, 230 Covington Drive, Bloomingdale.

Psychiatrists Steven Prinz and Fatima Ali, who are on staff at Linden Oaks at Edward in Naperville, will review the diagnosis and treatment of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorders.

They will introduce binge-eating disorder as a new diagnosis and spend time reviewing this condition. They also will introduce the new diagnostic changes in anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, and look at special medical conditions that can occur with eating disorders, including depression, osteoporosis and chronic constipation.

The most current management approaches to these conditions also will be reviewed.

Participants are encouraged to register at casedupage.com, but registration is not required for the free event. Education professionals can earn CPDU credits; CEUs provided by Linden Oaks at Edward.
