Darien man charged after road rage case in Oak Brook
A 57-year-old Darien man is facing criminal charges after what police are describing as a Friday morning road rage case in Oak Brook.
Robert Kasanda, of the 7000 block of Exner Road, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of criminal damage to property and one count of criminal trespass to motor vehicle.
Oak Brook police said Kasanda and a 48-year-old Lemont man were involved in a two-vehicle crash around 8 a.m. Friday along Route 83 near I-88.
The Lemont man told authorities he got into a verbal argument with Kasanda after the crash.
The argument escalated when Kasanda brandished a knife and pointed it at the motorist. During the confrontation, Kasanda grabbed the victim's car keys from the ignition and threw them into traffic, according to police.
On his way back to his vehicle, Kasanda used the knife to damage the driver's side of the victim's vehicle. The victim wasn't injured.
Police said they apprehended Kasanda at his place of employment in Wood Dale. They also recovered the knife.
In addition to the criminal charges, Kasanda has been cited for two traffic violations: leaving the scene of an accident and failure to exchange information/render aid.
Kasanda was processed at the Oak Brook police station and released on bond, officials said.
