Manet's 'Le Printemps' fetches $65 million at Christie's

An Edouard Manet painting of a woman carrying a parasol sold for $65.1 million at Christie's in New York, setting an auction record for the artist.

“Le Printemps,” painted in 1881, sailed past its estimate of $25 million to $35 million. Manet's previous record was in 2010, when “Self Portrait With A Palette” sold for $33.2 million at Christie's in London.

The final price includes commission; estimates don't.

Christie's Impressionist and modern art sale is continuing.
