Wolves beat Grand Rapids 3-1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Early starting times certainly agree with the Chicago Wolves.

The Wolves fell behind 1-0, then scored 3 unanswered goals en route to 3-1 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins in a AHL Wednesday matinee at Van Andel Arena.

The Wolves (6-2-2-0) earned a Midwest Division win and moved to 11-2-0-0 in matinees as Terry Broadhurst, Philip McRae and Ty Rattie scored. Goaltender Jordan Binnington (2-1-1) made 26 saves to earn his second win in a row while holding the Griffins scoreless in the final 52:16.

The Griffins (3-4-1-0) opened the scoring 7:44 into the game on a power play. Andy Miele netted his fourth goal and third against the Wolves this season when he fired a wrist shot past Binnington.

Broadhurst evened the score late in the period, taking advantage of a whiffed shot from the blue line by Xavier Ouellet to take off on a 2-on-1 the other way. Using Shane Harper as a decoy, Broadhurst moved in on goaltender Tom McCollum (2-1-1, 20 saves) and beat him glove-side at 15:56.

The Wolves took their first lead in the second period with a goal from McRae at 15:31. Skating 4-on-4, McRae converted his own rebound in the crease for a 2-1 lead.

The Wolves capped the win at 18:36 of the third period when Rattie scored an empty-net goal on an assist by Brent Regner.

The Wolves travel to Iowa for a two-game weekend series against the Wild - on 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. The Wolves return from their nine-game road trip Nov. 22 to host Iowa at 7 p.m.
