Three Harper volleyball players earn postseason honors
The women's volleyball season ended for Harper College in a three-set loss to No. 10-ranked Rock Valley in the Region IV semifinals on Saturday.
But three players who were key to the Hawks' fine season have earned postseason honors.
One player to bump, set and spike her way on to both the all-North Central Community College Conference team and the all-Region IV team was defensive whiz Meghan Chartier, who ranked among the top 10 nationally in three categories. Her 850 total digs was tops in the country, and Chartier was fifth in digs (5.63 per set) and sixth in fewest reception errors (97).
Daniele Sortino earned both all-conference and all-region honors as well. Sortino played a key role in the Hawks' defensive success, producing 108 blocks to rank ninth nationally. She also ranked in the top 20 in three more categories - games played (44, 6th), sets played (146, 6th) and points scored (437, 15th) - and was second on her own team in kills this season (309).
Outside hitter Lauren Sokolowski led the Hawks with 325 kills, which was 14th-best in the country, helping her earn all-conference recognition. The Rolling Meadows grad also had 466 digs, good for 13th nationally.
