Republicans Jung, Rein unseat Yensen in McHenry Board Dist. 5

Incumbent John Jung and fellow Republican challenger Michael Rein secured two seats on the McHenry County Board for District 5, according to unofficial results.

With all precincts reporting, unofficial vote totals show Jung garnered 5,617 votes, Rein received 4,955 votes, and incumbent Democrat Paula Yensen lost her seat with 4,308 votes.

Jung, 66, of Woodstock, a small-business owner, was first elected to the county board in 1994 and serves as the board vice chairman.

Rein, 49, of Woodstock, is a chiropractor and a political newcomer.

Yensen, 65, of Lake in the Hills, has been a board member since 2008.

During the campaign, all three candidates supported maintaining a flat county tax levy and tightening expenditures. They also identified the need for improvements to the transportation infrastructure and creating jobs as among the biggest issues.

The district includes Dorr Township, central Grafton Township and one precinct of Greenwood Township, much of Woodstock, Lakewood and Huntley, and part of Lake in the Hills.
