Auger wins rematch for 23rd Kane board seat

In a rematch of a race that was decided two years ago by a few percentage points, Republican Maggie Auger once again was elected to the Kane County Board's 23rd District seat.

According to unofficial results, Auger captured nearly 61 percent of the turnout Tuesday - or 2,652 votes compared to 1,541 for Smith.

"I'm honored to be serving Kane County and the residents of District 23," Auger said.

Auger said her experience on the county board, along with serving as chairwoman of the Algonquin planning and zoning board and the village's economic development commission, gave her an edge over Smith.

A priority for her next term is the county's Longmeadow Parkway project. She will also focus on fiscal responsibility.

Auger supports a plan for the $135 million Fox River bridge that would be paid for through a $1.50 user toll that would expire once the project was paid off. For now, she's working to ensure the plan has money to start.

"I'm going to continue pushing to make sure it does go forward," Auger said. "I've been working to find some different sources of funding."

Smith favored a toll-free bridge, saying the northern part of Kane County deserves free passage like the Stearns Road bridge.
