Algonquin consignment shop celebrates 10th anniversary

You know when your friend has that sweater you covet?

Or your neighbor has those leather pants you've been searching everywhere for?

And then you really want to ask them to borrow the clothes, but you just don't have the nerve?

For 10 years, a local business has been helping savvy shoppers get their hands on their desired clothing items for much less than it would cost them to buy those same items in a store.

This month, Your Best Friend's Closet, 3955 W. Algonquin Road, just west of the Randall Road corridor in Algonquin, is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

In addition to women's clothing, the consignment store carries juniors clothing, maternity wear, accessories, furniture and home goods in a more than 5,600-square-foot space.

To celebrate the store's success, owner Marianne Evans is planning a party this weekend that she says no one will forget. It will feature food, sales and entertainment.

On Thursday, Nov. 6, the store will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be cupcakes from Chelsea's Cupcakes served all day and food catered from China Bistro.

If you're shopping from 5 to 8 p.m., you'll also see a local celebrity impersonator of Captain Jack Sparrow.

The celebration continues Friday, Nov. 7, when the store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A buyer from Piccard Jewelers will be buying customers' unwanted gold from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

From 2 to 6 p.m., Fox River Spa and Salon will be giving free 10-minute chair massages. The food for the day will be catered by Domino's pizza and Chelsea's Cupcakes.

The fun continues Saturday, Nov. 8, when the store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a DJ and dance floor area for line dancing, as well as a photo booth from 1 to 4 p.m. The food for the day will come from Subway and again from Chelsea's Cupcakes.

Evans said she wanted to celebrate big to thank the community for its support. Over the years, she said, the family-owned business has expanded four times, and has had more than 4,600 local consignors.

And most recently, she said, her son Zack graduated from college with a degree in entrepreneurship and has taken over a larger role at the business, helping to add to its success.

"Your Best Friend's Closet has been a part of the community for 10 years, a small family-owned business," she said. "We've been making savvy shoppers happy for 10 years."
