Elgin 360 photo club to focus on portraiture

Portrait photography may seem simple enough on the surface but it can actually be one of the more challenging and rewarding endeavors a photographer can undertake. It's much more than just smile, point and shoot but rather a complex combination of lighting, exposure and composition.

At the next Elgin 360 Photography Club meeting at 7:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Side Street Studio Arts, 15 Ziegler Court in downtown Elgin, photographer James Harvey of Elgin Artspace Lofts will explain some of his successful portrait photography techniques as well as demonstrate some tips on proper lighting and exposure.

Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own cameras for practical application during and after his presentation. A professional background and lighting will be available for use.

Elgin 360 Photography Club's meetings are held the second Thursday of each month with networking beginning at 7 p.m. and the meeting to follow at 7:20 p.m. Meetings are open to everyone from beginning hobbyists to advanced pros. There is a $3 suggested donation at the door to cover the cost of the facility rental.

Before the November meeting, Elgin 360 Photography Club invites attendees to join them for dinner at Blue Box Cafe, 176 E. Chicago St. in downtown Elgin beginning at 5:30 p.m.
