Stuck somewhere in the '90s
My name is Dina Krueger and I am in need of a new living room, as mine is stuck somewhere in the '90s!
While it may look nice, it is really outdated with floral love seats and a painted hutch. The room itself is quite odd because it basically has 1½ walls as you see in the picture. It also is an open concept to the kitchen and the family room. So whatever I put in there has to blend with the rest of the house, which is quite challenging. Anyway, the room has a lovely window seat that takes up a pretty large section of one wall and a piano that has to stay or my eldest son will kill me! (The piano is located on the short wall). With all of these obstacles, I cannot seem to see any other options. Please help!
The really funny thing about this room is that no one ever really sits in it including me. It is just not warm and inviting. I would love for it to be a cozier room where I can sit and read and entertain guests and have it feel like the rest of the house. I promise you this will be a challenge for you!
I look forward to hearing back and really hope you consider my plea! BTW, I have put these love seats on Craigslist for sale since December and no takers.

Dina has a great room with great bones and good light. With the help of Calico's complimentary "In Home Design" service, we would be sure to turn the room into the cozy, warm space that Dina and her family would enjoy spending time in.
With some simple rearranging of the furniture and some new additions, we would be well on our way. If we move the piano to the wall where the hutch currently is, we would anchor the room around it and create the type of room that Dina would definitely use.
Flank the now-moved piano with two swivel chairs in a nice leather fabric. The small round table could sit next to one of the chairs and her larger round table would be moved next to the other chair. A large square cocktail table would sit in front of the chairs. We'd move one of the love seats, after having reupholstered it, to face the piano. Behind the love seat we'd suggest a sofa table with two cubes tucked underneath. This would create a traffic pattern and a place to enjoy listening to her son play the piano.
We'd take down the swags and add a simple wood rod across the width of the window with a pair of stationary window treatments on each side of the window
We'd suggest two swivel chairs in leather from our Current Collection, and reupholster the love seat in a nice neutral fabric. The pattern would come into the room on the window treatments, pillows on the love seat, and cubes under the console table
Adding an area rug would definitely anchor the new seating area. A mirror above the piano with two tall pieces of art work would create a well filled space on the piano wall. A wooden cocktail table and console table in tones similar to the piano would help to unify the space.
