Lombard fire causes $100,000 in damage

A garage fire - the second in less than a week in Lombard - caused an estimated $100,000 in damages to a single-family home Thursday evening, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire on Kensington Road around 9:25 p.m., according to officials.

Acting Battalion Chief Chuck Faivre said in a news release that a large amount of fire was coming out of the front of the garage and it had spread into the single-story home when crews arrived. Firefighters from eight nearby departments assisted in extinguishing the fire.

The residents of the home were able to evacuate safely after being alerted by the smell of smoke, officials said. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
