McHenry County to review natural disaster plan Nov. 4

McHenry County Emergency Management Agency will host its fourth annual review of the McHenry County Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at McHenry County Administration Building, Meeting Room B, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock.

This plan was completed as a partnership among county, municipal, townships, and public safety entities within the county. This review will primarily focus on mitigation efforts and scheduling of remaining plan actions.

The McHenry County Hazard Mitigation Committee, comprised of the original jurisdictional partners, will determine if additional mitigation issues or efforts, based on any natural hazard occurrences or input from communities or the public, should be added to the plan. Information from this meeting will form the basis of the annual report to be submitted to the county board by the chair of the McHenry County Hazard Mitigation Committee.

The development and adoption of a Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan allows communities to be eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency hazard mitigation grants program funds.

This plan fulfills the federal mitigation planning requirements for FEMA's Pre-Disaster Mitigation Program, Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and Flood Mitigation Assistance Program, and is eligible for credit under the FEMA National Flood Insurance Program's Community Rating System. Hazard mitigation grant funds are made available by the FEMA through the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.
