Off-duty Chicago police officer beaten, robbed

A Chicago police officer has been hospitalized with serious injuries after he was beaten and robbed while off duty.

Authorities say the police sergeant was in a downtown parking garage Thursday afternoon when he was approached by a group of at least five people. They say two or more men in the group hit the off-duty officer in the head, face and body.

Police say the suspects took the sergeant's personal belongings, including his gun, but not his wallet or badge.

The officer was taken to a hospital and was listed in serious condition.

Police are reviewing surveillance video from the parking garage.
