Home catches fire in Gurnee

Gurnee firefighters extinguished a blaze Friday morning at a single-family home on the 4200 block of Dorchester.

Firefighters said they received a call at 7:54 a.m. and arrived to find smoke coming from the rear of the building.

Firefighters said the blaze was extinguished in 10 minutes. There were no injuries, but the home is temporarily uninhabitable.

Damage was estimated at $25,000.

Authorities believe the fire started when hot objects from a microwave were taken outside and put on a wooden box.

Firefighters received assistance from the Waukegan, Zion, Newport, Libertyville, Mundelein and Lake Villa departments.
