Hultgren bothered by nimble thinking?

In your recent endorsement of Randy Hultgren for Congress from the 14th District, you cite his experience as the reason. Since this experience refers to his tenure as a member of the current "do-nothing" Congress, is his experience really worth much?

A quarterback who never throws the ball will not continue to play. Mr. Hultgren's primary focus is on balancing the budget, and he seems to not care what vulnerable American is trampled in the process.

Most economists agree that America will regain its financial footing when the middle class is empowered with jobs, decent wages, and affordable health care. If struggling Americans can become spenders and customers, businesses flourish, our economy becomes stronger and we all win.

Hultgren has worked to move the middle class ball backward with his legislative decisions. He has cut social services like SNAP, voted repeatedly to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and opposes increasing the minimum wage. He was the only member of the Illinois delegation to vote against reopening the government last year, following the shutdown that cost our country billions of dollars, and weakened our credibility. It sounds like Randy could use some coaching.

The Daily Herald did complement Dennis Anderson, Mr. Hultgren's opposition. The Herald recognized that Dennis is "well versed" in a variety of topics necessary to be a congressman. They also referred to him as a "nimble thinker". Now that is a novel quality for a member of Congress! His nimbleness just might allow him to reach across that congressional aisle and get something done for the American people. He welcomes dialogue on the issues, and an opportunity to find common ground to move the American people's ball forward. Mr. Hultgren declined 100 invitations to debate. Maybe there was something about that nimble thinking that bothered him.
