How Glen Ellyn students dressed up to celebrate All Saints Day

This is a time of year when ghosts and goblins frequently take center stage, but on Thursday much more saintly figures were roaming the hallways of St. James the Apostle School in Glen Ellyn.

Sixth-graders wore costumes to honor a variety of saints they've been studying and participated in a prayer service to celebrate All Saints Day.

Teacher Eve Wimpffen said the presentation followed a "cross-curricular class that goes from technology, English and reading to religion."

The objective was to honor saints as role models and to learn ways to apply their virtues to modern times.

While researching the lives of the saints, students said they learned a great deal.

"I learned that my saint stabbed Jesus while he was on the cross," said Colin Murphy, who portrayed the Roman centurion St. Longinus, "and, after that, converted to Christianity."
