Pumpkin launch in Vernon Hills

The Vernon Hills Park District is hosting a pumpkin launch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the sled hill in Century Park North off Lakeview Drive north of Route 60. Save your pumpkins and launch them pumpkin from the trebuchet, a type of catapult. Other pumpkin-related activities for the families are part of the event. Prizes are awarded to kids and adults. Bring one pumpkin per paid participant. Register early as pumpkin launching is limited to the first 50 participants. Fee is $2 per pumpkin launch. Vernon Hills High School teacher Jason Rush has built and refined a trebuchet for the park district to use, and he enlists some physics students to set up and operate the catapult.
