Artist reception Nov. 1 for "Famous Poses Through the Lens"

For the last couple of years, Elgin Community College has offered a variety of photography courses to educate students on artistic practices with different equipment.

In the Studio and Lighting course, students have been assigned to create work from commercial and artful standpoints. Toward the end of the semester students have been assigned the task of creating photographic imitations of well-known Renaissance paintings.

These bodies of work have previously been displayed at the John R. Grady Gallery of Photographic Art on ECC's campus.

This week, Next Door Theater at Side Street Studio Arts presents "Famous Poses Through the Lens," an exhibition featuring an archive of the imitating Renaissance imagery from different semesters.

"Famous Poses Through The Lens" will be on display at Next Door Theater, 15½ Ziegler Court in downtown Elgin, from Oct. 29 through Nov. 9, with open gallery hours of Wednesday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The artist reception for "Famous Poses Through the Lens" will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, and feature live music performances. There is a $5 suggested donation.

Side Street Studio Arts was founded by Tanner Melvin and Erin Rehberg in 2013 as an outlet for the Elgin arts scene. Currently under the direction of Amanda Harris, Melvin, and Rehberg, its mission is to provide educational and creative resources and an accessible space, run by artists, encouraging all aspects of the artistic process from creation to curation.
