Hanover Twp. holding health screenings at Illinois Welcoming Center

The new Illinois Welcoming Center in Hanover Park will provide screenings for anemia, blood pressure and diabetes Nov. 13.

The state-funded facility, geared toward immigrant and refugee families, offers job training, referrals to English and citizenship classes and other services.

Hanover Township nurses will administer the health screenings from 2 to 4 p.m. at the center, inside Christ Presbyterian Church, 6900 Barrington Road.

"We are excited to provide these valuable health screenings for individuals and families who attend the Illinois Welcoming Center, knowing that access to these important services and screenings can be limited for this population," township Community Health Director Kristen Smith said in a news release. "1 out of 3 adults in the United States has high blood pressure, but many of those people are unaware because there are often no symptoms, making it the silent killer. These screenings are the key to prevention and early detection of disease."

To schedule an appointment, call the center at (847) 313-1912. Walk-ins are welcome.
