'Skulloween 3' fundraiser to aid Elgin Public Museum
The former Spacetaste Gallery and the historic Elgin Public Museum of Natural History and Anthropology together will celebrate the spirit of Halloween and the Mexican Holiday of Dia de los Muertos - the Day of the Dead - with the "Skulloween 3" fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the museum, located in Lords Park at 225 Grand Blvd., Elgin.
Spacetaste asked over 50 artists to create one-of-a-kind Artskulls to be sold at the museum. In keeping with the Day of the Dead theme, when spirits of the dead return to visit their families. The skulls, donated by Elgin resident John LaFleur, have been painted, accented and adorned.
Founded in 1904, the Elgin Public Museum is Illinois' oldest museum building that originally was built as a museum and is still operating today. It is also the only natural history museum in the Fox River Valley. Proceeds from the sales will be split with the museum to help underwrite the costs of new programming.
Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.
