Girls volleyball: Harvest, Westminster to meet for 1A crown

Harvest Christian and Westminster Christian took care of business Tuesday night and now Elgin's two Class 1A girls volleyball teams, whose schools reside within a mile of each other, will travel to Deerfield Thursday for a regional championship.

Top-seeded Harvest made easy work of Elgin Academy in the first semifinal at Chicagoland Jewish Academy Tuesday, beating the Hilltoppers 25-14, 25-12. Mikayla Robinson (7 kills, 3 blocks), Ellie Burzlaff (5 kills), Hannah Murray (15 assists, 2 aces), Amanda Cassidy (6 aces) and Jade Martinez (7 digs) led the Lions (21-14).

Westminster Christian then overcame a Game 1 loss to beat Faith Lutheran 19-25, 25-17, 25-22. Emma Kovachevich (12 assists, 2 kills, 4 digs), Savannah Dutcher (5 kills, 4 blocks, 4 digs), Lindsey Vanden Bos (8 aces, 2 kills, 7 digs) and Whitney Woodhouse (8 digs, 3 kills) led Westminster (7-18-2).

CL South d. Prairie Ridge: Carly Nolan had 8 kills, 10 digs and 3 blocks as Crystal Lake South opened the postseason with a 25-15, 25-21 win over the host school at the Class 4A Prairie Ridge regional. Cassy Sivesind (18 assists), Victoria Falbo (14 digs) and Abigail Marchewka (4 kills, 10 digs) also contributed for the Gators (29-7), who will play crosstown rival Crystal Lake Central on Thursday for the regional title.
