Olympian Gracie Gold visits Crystal Lake ice rink

Olympic medalist Gracie Gold has returned to her roots with a visit to her former figure skating club in Crystsal Lake.

The 19-year-old bronze medalist spent time with members of the Wagon Wheel Figure Skating Club on Monday at the Crystal Ice House. She watched the skaters go through moves, took photos and answered questions. The Northwest Herald reports Gold also provided tips on how skaters can prepare for competitions and stressed the importance of jumps and spins.

During her visit, Gold received the Janet Lynn Award, named after the five time U.S. national champion who won bronze at the 1972 Olympics. The award recognizes members of the skating club for competitive excellence.

Gold, a former Springfield resident, was in town for the Skate America competition.
