BG, Wheeling Rotary clubs launch food drive

The Rotary clubs of Buffalo Grove and Wheeling are collecting nonperishable food items to help stock the pantries of disadvantaged families in the community for the winter.

Residents can drop off food at donation boxes located at the Alcott Community Center, 530 Bernard Drive, Buffalo Grove; the Buffalo Grove Fitness Center, 601 Deerfield Parkway, Buffalo Grove; Indian Trails Library, 355 Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling; the Community Arts Center, 225 McHenry Road, Buffalo Grove; and Cooper Middle School, 1050 Plum Grove Circle, Buffalo Grove. Food donations can also be dropped off at Denny Snyder's office, 791 S. Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove.

Items sought include canned vegetables, beans, rice, pasta, macaroni and cheese, stuffing mix, soup, cereal, peanut butter, and jelly.

The clubs, along with Rotary International District 6440, have teamed for 26 years to distribute holiday food baskets to less fortunate neighbors in the community. The clubs also plan to contribute $4,000 to $5,000 to purchase additional items for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, including a gift card to be used to buy a turkey, for about 150-plus families.

The clubs will accept monetary donations to benefit the project. Send checks payable to the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove, with "food baskets" on the memo line, to P.O. Box 5062, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089.

The food drive runs through Nov. 18.
