New lawsuit filed against arrested Schaumburg cops
Even as Schaumburg has reached the point of settling or defending a dozen lawsuits regarding the actions of three undercover police officers arrested last year on drug conspiracy charges, yet another was filed last week.
Jessica Elsayed, 24, of Schaumburg filed a federal lawsuit Oct. 24 claiming she had been wrongfully arrested and prosecuted for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver by former Schaumburg officers Matthew Hudak and Terrance O'Brien. They were charged in January 2013 along with fellow former officer John Cichy.
While Cichy is awaiting trial, Hudak and O'Brien have pleaded guilty. Hudak was sentenced to 26 years in prison, and O'Brien to 24 years.
Last month, the village settled the first of the 12 previous lawsuits stemming from the officers' actions. The village paid plaintiff Justin Holmstrom $5,000 with no admission of liability on the part of itself or its employees.
Attorney Jim Sotos, who's representing Schaumburg on these cases, said Tuesday he was unaware of this latest filing.
