Spirit Cheerleading raising community leaders

The local Yorkville cheerleading gym, Spirit Cheerleading, is raising some true leaders in our community. Every year team members participate in team bonding events and this year Team Legacy, a Jr. Level 3 team, decided to bond by helping others. These girls (and their moms) headed off to help box meals for Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God's children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and we ship these meals to nearly 70 countries around the world. (www.fmsc.org)

The Cheerleaders from Spirit have done other community service work and have more planned. A food pantry drive is set for November and a Toys for Tots drive in December. Amongst this they are preparing hard for their first competition of this season set for Nov. 9 a Twist your Spirit unplugged event in Downers Grove. The teams are hoping to win a paid bid to Las Vegas. (twistyourspirit.com)

Spirit Cheerleading has girls from all over Kendall, Kane, LaSalle, DeKalb, and Grundy counties and is a fast growing organization teaching kids of all ages the fundamentals of cheerleading, tumbling and leadership. Come check out our gym or see the Teams in action at a local competition.
