Big Ten honors Illinois punter

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Big Ten has named Illinois punter Justin DuVernois its special teams player of the week after the senior averaged almost 50 yards a punt against Minnesota.

DuVernois' average on Illinois' nine punts Saturday against the Gophers was 48.7 yards. Two of his punts were for 61 yards and four were downed inside the Minnesota 20-yard line.

Illinois (4-4, 1-3 Big Ten) beat the Gophers 28-24.

DuVernois leads the Big Ten in punting average at 45.8 yards per kick. That's seventh in the nation.

The Illini take on No. 13 Ohio State this Saturday.
