Batavia frosh Stephens wins regional

After winning the Upstate Eight Conference River Division championship last week, Batavia's girls cross country team notched another impressive accomplishment Saturday at the Class 3A West Chicago regional at Kress Creek Farm.

Freshman Emma Stephens covered the course in 18:05 to win the race, beating an impressive field that included Naperville North.

The Huskies won the regional going away with 24 points. Batavia also qualified for next week's sectional at LeRoy Oakes with 66 points, good for third behind the Huskies and Naperville Central.

The rest of the Batavia lineup Saturday was: senior Miranda Rea (11th, 18:48), freshman Daphne Kolody (14th, 19:02), freshman Marygrace Golden (17th, 19:08), freshman Anna Malay (23rd, 19:29), freshman Erika Mansfield (26th, 19:45) and junior Hannah Ullberg (33rd, 20:02).

West Aurora senior Miranda Gollwitzer also advanced running a 19:55 to place 31st.

Glenbard North regional: Geneva, St. Charles North and St. Charles East finished second through fourth, respectively, Saturday to advance to next week's sectional.

Wheaton Warrenville South won the regional with 56 points, four better than the Vikings.

Junior McKenzie Altmayer (sixth, 17:15) and sophomore Emma Ehrhardt (eighth, 17:49) both finished in the top 10 to lead the Vikings, with senior Brooke Nusser just missing in 11th.

Freshman Sarah Mozden stepped up as the fourth Geneva finisher in 15th, followed by sophomore Mary Grace Neville in 20th, freshman Brittany Caskey in 23rd and junior Emma McSpadden 24th.

Freshman Audrey Ernst paced St. Charles North in fifth in 17:40, and her teammates weren't far back in 13th, 14th and 16th - sophomore Madison Kaufmann (18:27), freshman Ally Suyak (18:34) sophomore Allie Chen (18:38), respectively. Seniors Jacelyn Maher and Morgan Lain finished 29th and 31st.

St. Charles East senior Torree Scull led the area finishers in third in 17:18. The rest of the Saints' top five: sophomore Hannah Ewald (10th, 18:04), sophomore Anna Arrick (12th, 18:12), sophomore Lauren Woelffer (30th, 19:08) and sophomore Allison White (36th, 19:31).

Woodstock regional: Kaneland scored 107 points to finish fourth and qualify for next week's sectional - which this year the Knights are hosting at the high school.

Yorkville, Crystal Lake Central and Vernon Hills took the top three spots.

Junior Brianna Bower (20:00), freshman Andrea Wells (20:03), senior Aislinn Lodwig (20:10), senior Victoria Clinton (20:11), senior Jessica Kucera (21:32), sophomore Sarah Daley (22:02) and sophomore Grace Dodis (22:40) made up Kaneland's seven.

Rosary regional: Aurora Central Catholic junior Karina Liz won the Class 2A Rosary regional on Saturday on the campus of Marmion Academy.

Liz won with a time of 18:49. Her team finished fifth to advance to sectionals with sophomore Abby Fioresi taking eighth in 19:39.

Rosary did not get its team out after finishing seventh. The Royals' top two stayed hot with senior Emily Martin third in 19:28 and junior Madison Ronzone seventh in 19:34.
