First suburban location of Barre Code Fitness Studio now open in Park Ridge

The Barre Code, Chicago's hottest fitness craze, is expanding to the suburbs. The first suburban Barre Code Fitness Studio recently opened in northwest suburban Park Ridge (at 33½ Prospect Ave.), with a second suburban Chicago location scheduled to follow in 2015.

The Barre Code is not your typical "barre studio." The Barre Code goes well beyond the traditional barre workouts, offering classes ranging from kickboxing to boot camp to yoga. The intention is to offer cardiovascular conditioning, strengthening work, and restoration all in one place. Creating a supportive environment for women is at the core of The Barre Code's mission.

The Barre Code offers the highest-quality, most comprehensive group fitness program for women, blending the ballet barre with superb choreography and outstanding classroom instruction to create maximum results. Classes are intense but fun, using a few props in addition to the barre, but as instructors often tell class-goers, just using your own body for resistance is the best tool of all.

The Park Ridge studio's owner, Jestina Orlando said that her first class in 2012 at the Lincoln Park studio was a transformational experience.

"I had tried other barre classes before. This was different - I knew this was what I wanted to do.'"

Orlando, who grew up in Park Ridge, knew there was a demand for this type of fitness studio in the Park Ridge area. After attending classes at the Lincoln Park Barre Code Studio (formerly Barre Bee Fit), she became an instructor and eventually a master trainer for the company. When she learned the company was looking into franchising, she jumped at the chance.

Members say the atmosphere here is different from other fitness studios. It's a very encouraging environment. The classes appeal to all levels - from people just starting out to people who work out every day. Instructors suggest modifications and challenges for everyone, regardless of experience or ability. Attendees are encouraged to take things at their own pace.

"It's addicting," said member Marina Kasicki. "You ache the next day - but it's a good ache. With each class you get stronger and feel a real sense of accomplishment."

"All of the trainers teach great classes and make you work hard," said client Cristina. "I love every workout and they make it a fun, enjoyable environment instead of seeming like a chore like going to the gym."

The experience is so positive that clients are sending Orlando emails thanking her, telling her how much they appreciate the studio. Member Julie Walczak sent a long list of appreciation which included, "I appreciate how all shapes/sizes are made to feel welcome; I appreciate how modifications are made available if a position isn't in the cards (yet); I appreciate how hard the class is so it's a big bang for the time put in; I appreciate how positive the Instructors are."

Instructors undergo intensive training to learn The Barre Code's program's methodology and approach to motivation. With ever-changing routines, new props, and customized playlists and lighting, The Barre Code classes are a full-on fitness experience.

Clients can register per class or have the option of purchasing packs of classes. Unlimited memberships are also available. Current specials include $10 for first time class visit and $80 for new clients for one month unlimited visits. Participants can also easily register for classes online, taking the stress and hassle out of planning. Interested in learning more?
