Votes for these two are votes for status quo

Recent letters from Joan Brody (Oct. 4) and Jim Peterson (Oct. 12) praise Tammy Duckworth " ... for her work to cut waste and fraud in government ..." and " ... reduce waste in military spending" among other things. but they both neglect to mention Ms. Duckworth's time as an assistant secretary in the Veterans Affairs for more than two years (2009-2011). The scheduling fiasco where the VA failed to give veterans timely physicals and treatment was occurring. And, the VA was covering up the scheme. Apparently, that sorry episode escaped her.

Speaking of the military, Sen. Richard Durbin is running ads to get re-elected. One ad claims that he is helping veterans. This is the same Sen. Durbin who called our brave soldiers Nazis in June 2005. In another ad he is fighting to lower student loan rates. But in his many years in the Senate why was he not trying to lower rates back then? In fact, he voted for the current high rates!

A vote for either one of them will ensure that the status quo continue.
