Fencing Gold Medal for Maciek Zmyslowski at 2014 Burton Open

Illinois Fencers Club kicks off its 2014 season with a gold medal at the USFA Burton Open tournament, one of the biggest fencing events in the area, that took place on September 28th at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

IFC fencers placed well in the field of 74 competitors from across the country and around the world in the Mixed Epee event, with six fencers in the top 16. Maciek Zmyslowski (23) earned yet another gold medal for himself. It was Maciek's fourth gold medal in this event in the last five years (2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014). Veteran fencer Tim Glass took 5th, Gabe Weininger (17) came in 9th, Deon Bradford got 11th, Zimo Zhu (16) finished 12th and Jakub Nowak (16) from Schaumburg came in 13th. Jakub Nowak earned a USFA B'14 rating, while Andrew Jin (16) achieved a C'14 rating during the event.

The Illinois Fencers Club promotes and teaches the Olympic sport of fencing to students of all ages and skill levels and provides a friendly venue for members to practice their sport. It is a member operated non-for-profit sports association that has been serving beginning, recreational, and competitive fencers for more than 40 years.
