Get in the driver's seat for band uniform fundraiser

The Geneva High School band program has received a very generous offer from not one, but two local supporters to participate in an easy, no-cost, no-effort fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.

Fox Valley Buick/GMC is sponsoring the "Buick Drive for Your Students" fundraiser on Saturday. All you have to do is come to the diagonal drive in front of the high school contest gym, 416 McKinley Ave., and test drive a new Buick. In exchange for the quick drive around the block Buick will donate $10 to Geneva High School's campaign to purchase new band uniforms. The Buick donation is $10 per person for the first 100 people who take a test drive. After reaching 101, the donation increases to $20 per drive, including the first 100 test drives, so when we reach 101 $2,000 will have already been raised. Geneva High School has the potential to earn up to $10,000 from Buick.

Geneva High School also has been approached by Liberty Mutual Insurance who will be partnering with Buick Saturday to offer additional fundraising opportunities. Liberty Mutual will donate $10 for every auto quote completed that day to the Geneva High School band to help with uniform purchases. For every parent, neighbor, friend, etc. they can quote, Liberty Mutual will donate $10. Liberty Mutual doesn't actually produce an auto quote at the event, they simply take contact information and call when it's convenient. The quoting process takes less than 5 minutes. Information is not sold and they only call with permission. Liberty Mutual has done events similar to this at other schools and the schools have raised several thousand dollars.

Liberty Mutual Insurance has a long history of giving back to the communities in which they work. Last year, they donated $1,000 to the Geneva High School athletic department during a football season-long event to raise funds. Additionally, last year they awarded a dozen or so students with the Liberty Mutual Responsible Student Award.

Because of the hard work put into past fundraisers and the generosity of the community, there has been a considerable sum of money raised for new Geneva High band uniforms. There is still some work to do to reach the goal of placing the order. These two opportunities that have been made available will help them move closer to the goal.
