Learn about bats Oct. 31 in Waukegan

Celebrate Halloween night with one of the evening's signature creatures: bats. Learn about bats at a free family event from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Waukegan Park District Belvidere Recreation Center, 412 S. Lewis Ave., Waukegan.

The show will feature an opportunity to see an Egyptian fruit bat and an African straw-colored fruit bat up close.

The show will include a presentation about bats, one of the most misunderstood and beneficial creatures on earth, followed by a Q-and-A session and a bat craft for children to make and take home.

Children are welcome to come dressed in their Halloween costumes as well.

Registration is required for this program. Register by Monday, Oct. 27. Participants can register online at www.waukeganparks.org with program No. 1009, or in person at any Waukegan Park District facility.
