Round1 entertainment center opens at Stratford Square

A new entertainment complex, Round1 Bowling & Amusement, has opened at Stratford Square Mall in Bloomingdale.

The 40,000-square-foot center is the company's first facility in the Midwest — others are located in Los Angeles and Japan — and features bowling, billiards, darts, table tennis, karaoke rooms, loads of arcade games, a snack counter and a bar serving beer and wine.

The Round1 opening marks the first major step in efforts to revitalize the mall, which is scheduled for a $30 million-plus makeover that will include revamped entrances, upgraded finishes, new landscaping, more seating and new stores, restaurants and outdoor cafes.

The mall currently is home to a 16-screen theater, restaurants and anchor stores such as Macy's and Burlington Coat Factory.

“Malls are becoming more than just a shopping experience, so Round1 is going to bring a wider entertainment component to complement the restaurants and the theater,” said Anthony Giannini, senior vice president of development and acquisitions for StreetMac, LLC, one of the firms investing in the development project.

Round1 General Manager Peter Yu said the family entertainment center will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day.

“It's a good place to hang out, have fun, be loud,” Yu said. “You buy the experience, you buy the fun times.”

Besides arcade games, Round1 in Stratford Square Mall also offers bowling, billiards, table tennis, darts, karaoke rooms, a snack counter and a bar. Safiya Merchant/smerchant@dailyherald.com
