Dealership employees to help out at Habitat site; auto dealer to donate 2014 car

On Sunday, Oct. 26, a dozen volunteers from Fox Valley Auto Group will join in demolishing a fire-damaged home in Aurora for the Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity.

Volunteers from dealerships in St. Charles, West Chicago and Schaumburg are expected for the first of two consecutive Sundays of deconstruction at the 911 W. Galena Blvd. site from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

An anonymous donor gave the home to the Montgomery-based Fox Valley Habitat, a Christian housing ministry, after a fire damaged the structure.

A $50,000 Housing and Urban Development grant, administered by the city of Aurora, was awarded to Fox Valley Habitat to fund reconstruction. The Rev. Jeffrey Barrett, Habitat executive director and pastor of Genesis Community Church in Montgomery, will lead an 8:30 a.m. devotional to kick off demolition.

Emir Abinion, owner of the Fox Valley Auto Group, announced his firm will donate a $23,000 2014 auto to a raffle to benefit Fox Valley Habitat. For a $25 donation, local residents will get a chance to win a new Volkswagen Jetta or Buick Verano. Only 2,500 tickets will be sold. The winner will be announced at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Fox Valley Buick GMC in St. Charles.

Tickets are available online at FoxvalleyHabitat.org. Or stop by the Habitat ReStore, 4100 Fox Valley Center Drive, Aurora; Fox Valley Habitat office, 1300 S. Broadway; or Fox Valley Habitat Auto Group dealerships at 1421 Main St., St. Charles; 560 W. North Ave., West Chicago; and 1000 E. Golf Road, Schaumburg.
