Zombie 5K benefits Home of the Sparrow

Home of the Sparrow has joined in the fun as Family Alliance hosts Haunted Square in Woodstock. You can join the walking dead at Home of the Sparrow's Zombie 5k Run/1 Mile Walk Saturday, Oct. 25. The run starts at 8:30 a.m.; walk begins at 9 a.m. at Emricson Park in Woodstock.

Participants are encouraged to seek pledges by creating their own personal fundraising page by visiting www.HOSparrow.org. Through their personal page, participants can send emails to friends, family, co-workers, post on Facebook, Twitter and other social media websites. Participants who raise $150 or more will receive a T-shirt as well a free general admission ticket to the Haunted Square. Those who raise $75 or $100 will get discounted Haunted Square admission.

Walkers participating in the one-mile walk will have the choice to walk through the "Zombie Zone" or the family friendly "Safe Zone," where this is no age requirement and strollers are welcome. Runners ages 12 and older can run for their life through the scary Zombie Zone. Participants are encouraged to dress up as a zombie or in a Halloween costume. An award will be given for the best Zombie or Halloween costume. Medals will be awarded for the top two runners in each age category.

All race proceeds go directly to support Home of the Sparrow's mission which is to provide hope, opportunity and support that empowers women and children as they journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency.
