Metea Valley High honors U.S. veterans with The Healing Field

Metea Valley High School is honored to host The Healing Field from Nov. 4-11.

The Healing Field is a weeklong display of 1,000 American flags in an awe-inspiring tribute to honor those men and women who sacrificed their time, talents, and even their lives for our freedom and for this great land. Each flag will fly in honor of a hero, family member, friend, or loved one and will be tagged with personal words of remembrance and/or honor. The Healing Field will be open to the public from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and there will be greeters available at all times.

"As Americans, we all cherish our freedom, and we need to honor those men and women who fought to keep it alive," said Rudy Keller, organizer of the event. "It is an extremely powerful sight to see; it's incredibly moving," said Keller. The Healing Field committee welcomes the entire community to be a part of this event.

"The community can participate in several ways," stated Keller. "Obviously, we encourage our community to purchase a flag. You can purchase it in honor of all veterans, or a specific loved one in your life who served. At the event's conclusion, you can take the flag home or share it with your honored loved one to continue the tribute year round."

In addition to individuals and families purchasing a flag, Keller encourages businesses, organizations and church groups to participate. Corporate sponsorships are available.

The public can visit the Metea Valley High School website (mvhs.ipsd.org) to print an order form. For more information and volunteering opportunities, email Rudy Keller at Rudy_Keller@ipsd.org.
