North: Random thoughts as Bears look for clues

With about 1,000 random thoughts roaming my brain, it's time to let loose of a few of them.

• Notre Dame's loss hurts, but if the Irish end up with only that one, look for them to be in the playoffs.

• Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma Sooners lost to Kansas State! Wasn't Stoops supposed to have three national titles and be a pro coach by now?

• People who think that San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is a candidate for MVP do not know much about football.

• The NBA may move to 11-minute quarters. Is it because Adam Silver wants to be known for more than Donald Sterling? Mr. Commish, just cut down on timeouts and the games will be fine.

• So now we need a task force to determine what's wrong with the USA Ryder Cup team? Nothing is wrong - the Europeans are better golfers! They have won seven of the last eight Ryder Cups - enough said.

• If I hear one more person say Peyton Manning is the greatest quarterback of all time - stop yourself!

• I love how people are now trying to make a big deal about Jay Cutler's inconsistencies and inability to win. Isn't that what I have been saying since he came here? Jay Cutler stole the playoffs from the Bears last season along with general manager Phil Emery and head coach Marc Trestman, and is paid handsomely to play ugly football.

• Which game is better - college football or pro football? If you say pro football, I totally disagree.

• I'm trying to be straight up: I just can't root for Florida State's Jameis Winston.

• I have been fortunate to work with great partners in my career such as Dan Jiggetts, Doug Buffone and Fred Huebner. I now work with another terrific one - Andy Furman on Fox Sports Radio. Check us out on iHeart if you haven't already.

• Why do teams insist on rushing only three defensive linemen against guys like Andrew Luck and Tom Brady? And where is Buddy Ryan when you need him?

• Have you noticed there are fewer complaints about the play of Joe Flacco regardless of how the Baltimore Ravens do? He's about as good as any quarterback in the league.

• The NBA can't start soon enough for me.

• I have to say it: Bud Selig was a heck of a commissioner for baseball.

• For people who think the NFL is a better game than baseball, you must not like drama, passion and the unexpected.

• Hey, how about that high-powered Bears offense? It's unstoppable!

• They can't run "The Godfather" or "The Godfather Part II" on Direct TV enough. Between those two flicks and "The Shawshank Redemption," I'm set.

• Thanks for reading. Now I'm going to get a hot dog.
