Missouri troopers recover body from river

LA GRANGE, Mo. - Missouri and Illinois authorities are working to identify a man whose body was pulled from the Mississippi River.

An Illinois coroner said Monday he believes it's the body of a 22-year-old towboat worker who fell into the river near Canton earlier this month.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a patrol helicopter searching for the man spotted the body near La Grange, about 6 miles from where the worker went missing. The body was found on the Illinois side of the river and was taken to Adams County Coroner Jim Keller.

Keller says an autopsy will be conducted Tuesday.

The worker's identity hasn't been released. Authorities say he fell overboard around 11 p.m. Oct. 8 from the tugboat Charlie G. It's unclear why he fell.
