Beer-seeking Wheeling burglar gets four years

A Wheeling woman who entered a stranger's home and announced "I want beer" will get a four-year prison sentence instead.

Convicted in September of residential burglary, Lidia Zuradzka, 52, was sentenced to prison Tuesday.

Zuradzka entered a Wheeling home through an unlocked door in June. When the female homeowner discovered Zuradzka and asked what she was doing, Zuradzka responded "I want beer," prosecutors said during her bond hearing in June.

Zuradzka fled after the homeowner screamed, prosecutors said.

Zuradzka was on parole for a 2013 residential burglary conviction at the time of her arrest, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records. IDOC records also show convictions for criminal trespass from 2010 and 2011.

She received credit for the time she has spent in custody since her arrest.
