Cicero man gets 122 years in girlfriend's death

A Cicero man has been sentenced to more than a century in prison for a shooting that left his 15-year-old girlfriend dead and injured her mother outside their Romeoville home in February.

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow says 24-year-old Erick Maya was sentenced Monday to 122 years in prison.

Maya was convicted last month of murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Jurors concluded that Briana Valle and her mother, Alicia Guerrero, were outside their Romeoville home when Maya shot Briana in the head and then shot Guerrero.

Prosecutors said Maya fled on foot and police found him hours later hiding under a porch. Briana died four days later. Guerrero survived and testified against Maya.
