Rauner endorsement is contradictory
Bruce Rauner's recent endorsement by the Daily Herald ignores the obvious and serious conflict when a candidate panders to individual self-interests and then claims to be fiscally responsible. Lowering taxes and reducing a massive public debt at the same time are an impossible mission, yet Mr. Rauner makes statements claiming he can do both. Of course, "the devil is in the details," and it is no surprise that Rauner offers none.
The Daily Herald encourages us to trust Mr. Rauner because of his experience making huge profits from downsizing and outsourcing, yet Illinois needs more jobs, not fewer jobs. And since the incumbent has not led Illinois out of the "darkness" that has infected this state for much of my lifetime, the Daily Herald prefers that we drop him after a few years in office in favor of a rookie with political independence fortified by his great wealth and a track record of cordial relationships with heavy-hitters from both parties (that he has bought and paid for).
So I'm not the least bit influenced by the Daily Herald's recommendation to elect Mr. Rauner. Shakespeare's "Macbeth" describes this year's endorsement quite well. "A tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
