Home rule would mean higher taxes

In 1998, the residents of Lake Zurich voted 70 percent against home rule, so I again say:

Lock your doors, close your windows, hide your wallets and don't cash your paychecks because they're coming after you and me for our money and power. Remember, less government means more freedom for us and fewer taxes. So preserve our rights by voting "no" for home rule.

The pro-home rule people say the quality of our life is less than desirable; they want more, as the mayor puts it, "stuff." They want ball fields, cultural arts facilities, a swimming pool, special events, etc. "Why did you leave the towns and cities where you lived to come out here if Lake Zurich doesn't provide your needs?"

There is almost no limit to increasing taxes and fees, incurring unnecessary debt through bonds for frills and flowers in good times, while remaining during a recession such as utility bills, restaurants, prepared foods in grocery stores, entertainment facilities, gas stations, alcoholic and pop beverages, all tobacco items, etc., etc., and our property tax cap is automatically lifted. Residents always pay more.

Fees and taxes can be increased on businesses, both products and services. However, businesses and developers will not absorb the money but will pass on to the consumer and there lies a hidden tax increase.

Long Grove voted home rule down four times. We can't repeal home rule for 23 months due to too much debt incurred with bonds among other reasons. However, all past debts incurred remain along with new restrictions, ordinances, etc. which the taxpayers never approved.

So, please preserve our freedom and rights - don't give them to the government, ever. Vote not for home rule.
