South Elgin wins Schaumburg tennis sectional

The South Elgin girls tennis team won the program's first sectional championship Saturday, scoring 26 points to take top honors at Schaumburg.

The Storm's depth led them to the title, which they won without any of their players reaching a championship match.

Sophomore Lisa Derowski finished third in singles and junior Corinne Hildebrandt fourth for the Storm, while the doubles team of seniors Jordane Waichunas/Michelle Lopez (3rd) and Karina Michel/Josie Seykota (4th) also qualified for next weekend's state tournament.

Elgin junior Dahlia Keonavongsa will also play at state after finishing second to Elk Grove's Jelena Vujanic in singles play.

The Elgin Academy doubles team of senior Kayla Schwan and junior Emma May won the sectional championship, defeating Conant's Haley Anderson/Priya Gupta in the title match.
