Aurora man gets 90 years for sexually assaulting relative
A Kane County judge has sentenced an Aurora man to 90 years in prison for sexually assaulting a relative, officials said.
Jose Mendoza-Sosa, 46, of the 300 block of Spring Street, was sentenced Friday by Associate Judge Clint Hull, according to a news release from Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon. In addition, Mendoza-Sosa also must register as a sex offender for life, although the judge noted that Mendoza-Sosa likely would die in prison.
In September, a jury convicted Medoza-Sosa on 20 counts of criminal sexual assault and of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Prosecutors said that between June and August 2012, Mendoza-Sosa assaulted the juvenile victim at his home. The victim later saw him committing the same acts with a younger sibling and told another family member, who contacted authorities, prosecutors said.
Mendoza-Sosa also threatened both the older victim and the victim's mother in an attempt to keep them from testifying, prosecutors added.
Mendoza-Sosa receives credit for the 790 days he has spent in the Kane County jail.
