On the road: One-time-only art walk in Logan Square

Chicago

Borderline

Take a Sunday stroll with soul as you visit neighborhood artists' studios and galleries on a walking tour of Logan Square. Chicago Detours partnered with Azimuth Projects and designed the art walk within the Chicago Artists Month's 2014 theme of "Crossing Borders." This special, one-time-only experience will tackle the borders of anything from physical barriers, such as those within our neighborhood landscapes to more conceptual barriers of sound, culture and cuisine. The two-hour long art walk and tour includes a visual scavenger hunt with original art prizes.

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at Autotelic Studios, 1856 N. Richmond St., Chicago. The $25 ticket includes original art prizes, visits to galleries, landscape tour commentary, refreshments and special gifts. Make advance reservations through chicagodetours.com.

It was a very (insert your adjective) year

The Vietnam War, protests, assassinations, love-ins, riots and some of the best music every created were all a part of one year - 1968. Its darkest hours and incredible highs come to life an extraordinary new exhibit at the Chicago History Museum. "1968" is a state-of-the-art, multimedia exhibit that affected a sense of identity for the people who were there. Abbie Hoffman, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., "Hair," "2001: A Space Odyssey," Johnny Cash, George Wallace and Aretha Franklin are just a handful of subjects from the exhibit, which is organized chronologically by month.

9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday; now through Jan. 4 at the Chicago History Museum, 1601 N. Clark St., Chicago. General admission is $14 with audio tours; $12 with audio tours for seniors and students (ages 13-22 with school ID); free for ages 12 and younger. (312) 642-4600 or chicagohistory.org.

Very superstitious

In 1987, a Belleville, Wisconsin, police officer reported seeing a cluster of lights in the sky and soon other citizens reported odd objects in the late afternoon sky departing in clouds of vapor - more than a dozen reports of U.F.O. activity from January to April, in fact. Belleville becomes the U.F.O. Capitol of the World during the 28th annual UFO Day when aliens and humans get together for a craft fair, kids' games, parade of aliens, lots of food and a beer tent, a Monster Costume Ball and much more in the riverside village just 17 miles south of Madison.

10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in Library Park, Belleville, Wisconsin. (608) 424-3336 or belleville-wi.com.

Frightful fishing

Take the family to Jack O'Lantern Days in Fish Creek, Wisconsin. There will be mask making, pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating throughout the village, and a Halloween party and parade so the kids can get a couple of more promenades with their costumes. Arrive on Friday to carve pumpkins (gear supplied) and have your creation on display Saturday night. Adults will like their own hands-on art night, Halloween party and ghost tours.

6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in Fish Creek, Wisconsin. (800) 577-1880 or visitfish creek.com.
