Arlington Hts. furniture store closing after 34 years

Classic Oak and Leather Designs, a furniture and upholstery store that at one time had six locations around the suburbs, is closing its last store in Arlington Heights after 34 years in business.

The going-out-of-business sale started on Friday at 955 E. Rand Road in Arlington Heights, said Bob Groters, sales manager for the store, which sells handcrafted Amish bedroom and dining room furniture, leather and fabric furniture and more.

Classic Oak and Leather, which opened in 1980, at one time had locations in Crystal Lake, Lake Zurich and Naperville, but Arlington Heights has always been the flagship.

"The store is closing due to the sale of the building and untimely death of its longtime owner," according to a news release.

The store will close for good when it runs out of merchandise.

"It's going pretty fast," Groters said Friday. "We have many customers who have been walking through the door and are sorry to see us go."
