Geneva dentist offers offers cash for candy

This Halloween, earn cash for candy while supporting deployed soldiers. After all the tricks are over and all the sugary treats have been handed out, one area dental practice has decided to extend the Halloween season by promoting a sugar-free smile with their first "Candy Buy Back" program supporting Operation Gratitude.

On Saturday, Nov. 8, children of all ages can bring their excess, unopened candy to McCall Family Dentistry and receive $1 per pound donated.

"We recognize that kids love trick-or-treating and loading up on candy, but we also see the damage that this added sugar can cause to a seemingly healthy smile," said Dr. Ryan McCall of McCall Family Dentistry in Geneva.

"As parents, we know it can be nearly impossible to rid your little ones of giant sacks of candy, so we decided to participate in the Operation Gratitude Candy Buy Back program to not only incentivize kids with cash for candy, but to educate them about preventative oral care. We are really looking forward to a great turnout that will be supporting a great cause."

Candy will be collected from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McCall Family Dentistry, 407 Williamsburg Ave., Geneva. Each child accompanied by a parent or guardian is eligible to receive $1 per pound of unopened candy, up to five pounds. Children will be encouraged to decorate cards for service members, and each family will be entered in a raffle for a Fitbit Flex, restaurant gift cards and more.

Candy, decorated cards and dental care items will then be shipped to Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends more than 150 million care packages annually to troops deployed overseas.

Dr. James and Dr. Ryan McCall are a father-son duo at McCall Family Dentistry and have been serving Geneva and the surrounding area since 1977.
