Medline officials say they're fielding hundreds of calls a day from hospitals around the United States interested in ordering its proactive products to prevent the spread of Ebola. Screenings for Ebola to start at O'Hare today

Fever screenings are set to begin today at O'Hare International Airport for any passengers arriving from West Africa. Dr. Julie Morita, chief medical officer of Chicago's Department of Public Health, emphasized that there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in the Chicago area. The screenings are part of government plans to begin taking the temperatures of travelers from West Africa arriving at five U.S. airports as part of a stepped-up response to the Ebola epidemic. Could I-PASS be used in other states?

A test program that would allow Illinois I-PASS transponders to work in several new states via the Alliance for Toll Interoperability organization is being considered by the tollway board. ATI members include Florida, Oklahoma, California and Texas, to name a few. I-PASSes already work in several other states such as Ohio, Indiana, New York, New Jersey, Maine and Virginia. Full story.

Elgin officer fights termination

The Elgin police officer fired last month after commenting on social media about the shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, is fighting the department's decision. On Sept. 29, the department fired Jason Lentz, a 17-year veteran, for Facebook posts that appeared to have racial connotations. Full story.

Hampshire rescue going well; horses still available

New homes have been found for about 50 of the 75 quarter-horses in need of adoption from a Hampshire stable. The remaining horses are 12 to 25 years old and may not have ever been saddle-broke and instead best suited as companions. Full story.

Man charged with twice robbing Crystal Lake 7-Eleven

A Crystal Lake man twice robbed the same 7-Eleven near his apartment complex, taking money from the cash register and then running in both instances, authorities said yesterday. Jeffrey D. Gibson, of the 500 block of Somerset Lane, is accused of robbing the store Tuesday and previously on Sept. 28. Full story.

N. Aurora man charged with robbery, theft

A North Aurora man faces multiple charges related to an aggravated burglary at a North Aurora grocery store and theft from a North Aurora home. Jacob A. Harnesk, 26, formerly of the 200 block of East Arrowhead, was arrested Monday on a theft warrant. Full story.

Blackhawks fall to Flames in overtime, but Hawks were shootin'

Jonas Hiller made 49 saves and Mikael Backlund scored at 4:35 of overtime, lifting the Calgary Flames to a 2-1 victory over the Blackhawks last night. The Blackhawks controlled the action for much of the night, enjoying a whopping 50-18 advantage in shots on goal. But were they quality shots? Mike Spellman reports.
